It is one of the most beautiful and ancient cities of Tuscany founded by the Romans around the year 30 A.C. Le origini di questo vino risalgono all’ incirca al 1384, quando nacque la «Lega del Chianti», composta dai territori delle città di Radda, Gaiole e Castellina. Nel 1847 il Barone Bettino Ricasoli stabilì la composizione dei vitigni dando vita al vino Chianti ma solo nel 1924 lo Stato emanò una legge che regolava il settore del vino: a Radda nacque un Consorzio per la difesa del vino tipico Chianti che adottò come marchio il famoso «gallo nero», già simbolo dell’antica Lega ■

The origins of this wine can be traced back to 1384, when the «League of Chianti» was created with the territories of the fortified towns of Radda, Gaiole and Castellina. In 1847 Bettino Ricasoli – called the «Iron Baron» – invented the composition of vineyards, creating the famous Chianti wine. Only in 1924 was established a State law adjusting the wine sector: in Radda was born a consortium for the defence of Chianti who taken as a trademark the «gallo nero» picture, already a symbol of the old league ■

La parola «Chianti» è spesso pronunciata dagli amanti della buona cucina e, soprattutto, del buon vino quando desiderano riferirsi ad una particolare zona geografica della Toscana famosa per la qualità dei suoi prodotti. Girando per il Chianti è possibile fermarsi nelle numerose fattorie o castelli, visitare antiche cantine e assaggiare ottimo vino, magari accompagnato da formaggi e insaccati di produzione contadina. The word «Chianti» is many times pronounced by lovers of good food and, especially, good wine when they want to describe a particular area of Tuscany famous in all the world for the quality of the products. Traveling by car or motocycle you can stop in the numerous farms or castles, visit ancient cellars and taste excellent wine, maybe accompanied by cheeses and sausages of local production. Little restaurants, typical family-run hotels and holiday cottages have found natural location in the villas and estates of Chianti ■
